Part-Time Associate Director needed for the Longmont Chorale

Position begins Summer, 2019

Please apply by May 20, 2019

The Longmont Chorale is a non-auditioned SATB community choir that has performed for Longmont area audiences since 1937. We perform 4 major concerts each year of varying genres.  Our auditioned ensemble performs 1-2 additional concerts and supports community events, including holiday and summer events.  Our current Associate Director is moving to another community, so we are seeking a replacement to start in the 2019-2020 season.

Duties: The Associate Director assists the Artistic Director in preparing for all concerts. Weekly 3 hour rehearsals occur Monday evenings from late August through early May. The Associate Director will lead sectionals during regular rehearsals and rehearse both the full chorale and the smaller auditioned ensemble as needed. The Associate Director will conduct selected repertoire for each concert.

In addition, the Associate Director assists in developing concert themes and music for each concert. The Associate Director will assist the Artistic Director with solo auditions, selections, and preparation; procuring guest groups, soloists, and instrumentalists; placement of singers for rehearsal; concert logistics including entrances/exits and riser standing arrangements.

The Associate Director is expected to attend and participate in Board of Director meetings and Chorale functions as needed, to foster positive and timely communication, to recruit new singers, and to act as a positive spokesperson for the Longmont Chorale.

Compensation: $4,000 for the concert year distributed in monthly payments. Our fiscal year is July 1 – June 30. No health insurance or other benefits are included. This is a non-employee, contracted position that is eligible for renewal annually. Time commitment is generally 10-15 hours per week.

Qualifications: A Bachelor of Music (minimum), or a Master of Music (preferred) with an emphasis in choral conducting. A minimum of 3-5 years of experience with high school or adult voices, showing proficiency as a choral conductor, including strong communication, planning, organizational, and management skills. Basic piano proficiency.

Application Process: Submit a current resume to personnel@longmontchorale.org on or before May 20, 2019. Include a minimum of 3 references related to choral conducting experience. Short audios or videos may also be submitted, but are not required.

For familiarity with the Longmont Chorale, applicants are encouraged to attend a rehearsal during April or May and/or the May 5 Longmont Chorale concert.

Finalists will be asked to demonstrate their conducting skills during one Longmont Chorale rehearsal in June.  We will prepare to perform patriotic choral music as part of Longmont’s July 4 “Symphony in the Park” event. Lastly, the finalists will interview with the Personnel Committee for the Longmont Chorale during July. Decisions will be made no later than early August, with duties commencing after that time.
