Part-Time Associate Accompanist needed for the Longmont Chorale

Position begins Summer, 2018

The Longmont Chorale is a non-auditioned SATB community choir that has performed for Longmont area audiences since 1937. We perform 4 major concerts each year of varying genres.  Our auditioned ensemble performs 1-2 additional concerts and supports community events, including holiday and summer events.

Duties: The Associate Accompanist will be the primary accompanist for the Longmont Chorale’s auditioned ensemble, “The Chorale Singers”. One hour rehearsals occur Monday evenings from 6-7 from late August through early May. The accompanist will participate in all concerts of the Longmont Chorale, including community event performances by the Chorale Singers that occur throughout the year (including holidays and summer).

The Associate Accompanist will also be expected to substitute as needed for the full chorale for either weekly rehearsals or scheduled concerts, attending the first hour of each regular, full Chorale rehearsal per concert, as well as dress rehearsals and others scheduled as needed.

On occasion, the Associate may be asked to perform duets with the Accompanist for 4-hand accompaniment. An international tour is planned for summer 2020. Applicants should indicate their willingness to participate in this tour. Details about the tour are available here: https://www.longmontchorale.org/tour-with-us/

The Associate Accompanist is expected to attend and participate in Board of Director meetings and Chorale functions as needed, to foster positive and timely communication, and to act as a positive spokesperson for the Longmont Chorale.

Compensation: $1,800 for the concert year distributed in monthly payments. Our fiscal year is July 1 – June 30. No health insurance or other benefits are included. This is a non-employee, contracted position that is eligible for renewal annually. Time commitment is generally 5-10 hours per week.

Qualifications: A Bachelor of Music (minimum), or a Master of Music (preferred) with an emphasis in piano performance. A minimum of 3-5 years of experience with high school or adult choirs, showing proficiency as an accompanist using both piano and keyboard. Strong sight-reading skills are required.

Application Process: Submit a current resume to nancy.mervar@longmontchorale.org on or before April 6, 2018. Include a minimum of 3 references related to choral accompaniment experience. Short audios or videos may also be submitted, but are not required.

Finalists will be asked to attend one three-hour rehearsal during April and will receive a complimentary ticket to the May 6 concert by the Longmont Chorale. They will be asked to demonstrate their accompaniment skills during one June rehearsal of Chorale members who will perform patriotic choral music as part of Longmont’s July 4 “Symphony in the Park” event. Lastly, the finalists will interview with the Personnel Committee for the Longmont Chorale during July. Decisions will be made in early August with duties commencing after that time.
