Dear Friends of the Longmont Chorale,

It is with a heavy sadness that we announce the cancellation of the Longmont Chorale concerts which ordinarily would be scheduled for October and December of 2020.

We know that this announcement will come as an enormous disappointment, not only to our audience, but also to our singers and the Longmont community. This is not a decision we have taken lightly. There are overriding concerns which have caused us to make this decision at this time.

The first concern is the uncertainty caused by the fact that Governor Polis has established a ban on large gatherings for the protection of everyone’s health. The ban includes rehearsals and concerts such as ours, for the foreseeable future, pending the development of a vaccine for COVID-19. Related to this, our primary rehearsal and performance venues (both churches) are unable to accept bookings at this time for large groups like ours.

Secondly, we are always aware of the responsibility we feel towards our singers and audience as well as our advertisers, sponsors, grantors and our community, all of whom together make the Longmont Chorale possible. Earlier in 2020, we were hopeful that fall was far enough away that we’d perhaps be able to proceed with the 2020-2021 season as usual. However, as it stands today, we remain months away at best from the approval and availability of a vaccine for COVID-19, and so our rehearsals and concerts will remain under the ban.

Both of these factors – uncertainty around when the Longmont Chorale will be allowed to sing again, as well as our concern for our singers, audience, supporters, and community – have led us to the conclusion that we need to cancel the October, 2020 and December, 2020 concerts. Should the unexpected happen, we will certainly update you promptly if we are able to rescue these concerts.

We want to assure you that we have made this decision based on the facts available today and based on the responsibility and genuine care we feel for all our singers, audience, and our community. We have tried to take the best course of action possible, and we are so very thankful for the support that has already been shown to us. Quite rightly, many of you see yourselves as friends and members of the extended Longmont Chorale family, and we value you in the same way.

Despite the disappointment and impact we know you will feel, we want you to know that we’re fully committed to rehearsing and performing the beautiful choral music that we all love. We will continue to work hard behind the scenes to get the Longmont Chorale back on stage again as soon as possible, just as we all love to experience together. We will keep you updated when things change and/or when new information is available.

Once again, we thank everyone for the support that has been shown to the Longmont Chorale as we all work through these difficult times.

Take care & stay well,
Bob Balsman, President, Longmont Chorale
