A message from our Artistic Director, Scott Hamlin:

An exciting opportunity has come about, as Elliot Moore, the Director of the Longmont Symphony Orchestra, has invited Viva Voce (formerly the Chorale Singers) to once again be a special part of the Candlelight Concert on Sunday, December 15 th, with the LSO.

This year we will be performing nearly the complete Handel’s Messiah. We would like to have about 40 singers for this major work, and will therefore, want to add a maximum of 10 singers just for this concert. Rehearsals will begin, Monday, August 19, 7-9 pm. (The full Longmont Chorale will begin their rehearsals on Monday, August 26.)

Elliot has given us his requested rehearsal dates, so you must commit to these
rehearsals (as well as our normal 6-6:45 pm Monday rehearsals) in order to sing in this

  • Saturdays, November 16 and 23, 9-noon with Elliot Moore
  • Monday, December 9, 6-9 pm with Scott and Daniel
  • Thursday, December 12, 7-10 pm with Elliot and LSO
  • Friday, December 13, 7-7:45 pm with Elliot and LSO on any weak sections,
  • Saturday, December 14, 1-4 pm with Elliot, LSO and hired soloists (Elliot will select)
  • Sunday, December 15, Call time 3 pm, Concert at 4 pm.

The auditions to join Viva Voce for Messiah will take place the week of August

Please contact Scott (artistic.director@longmontchorale.org) to set up a specific date and time,
or if you have questions. Current Viva Voce members do not need to re-audition.
If you are unable to audition during the week of August 12-18, please contact Scott for
a different date and time.

The audition will consist of the following:

  • Vocalization to establish your comfortable singing range
  • Aural recall
  • Triad identification
  • Sight reading simple rhythms
  • Sight reading simple melodies
  • Singing My Country ‘Tis of Thee a cappella (from memory) in any key of your choice

Other criteria I will consider are your willingness to commit to the performance demands of the group and to attend stated rehearsals.

Please email me with any questions you may have or to schedule an audition time.
